HOW CAN YOU HELP US RAISE FUNDS? Not unlike most non-profits, we are experiencing a growth in need, but a decrease in donations. As a result, we are prayerfully asking for your help in raising the necessary funds to continue the mission at the Manassas Adult Detention Center. 1. Donate NOW by donating online. 2. Give us your spare change. Put a container on the counter and simply put your spare change in it each day. Once the jar is full, simply bring it to the Chaplain at the ADC. 3. Donate Bibles. All Bibles and/or books must come directly to the Chaplains' Office from the retailer (retailers such as Amazon, ChristianBooks.com, American Bible Society, etc.). We cannot accept Bibles or books that come from an individual and not a retailer. 4. Help us with our vending machines. we need people to service machines in the Prince William and Fairfax County areas. It's about minimal time with maximum impact! You can also help us find new locations. Call or email Harry Durst at h.durst@verizon.net or Chaplain Freer at cfreer@pwcgov.org. |

OUR PURPOSE: The chaplain meets the spiritual needs of both inmates and staff through ministry that includes evangelism, discipleship, and pastoral attention, while facilitating other religious faiths within the guidelines established by law and the individual correctional facility. |
TESTIMONY: "All Glory to Our God" ..."My search for love and safety grew stronger but more destructive over the years, and as a young teen, I found that drugs and alcohol gave me a false filling of my empty heart, and a false security from my pain and loneliness. I found that the more I fed this lie, the more the lie seemed like my reality.." . . . (click here for the rest of the story) |

From the Chaplain's Desk
As we begin the New Year, I wanted to take the time to thank all of you who give so much to this ministry. We have an amazing group of volunteers, who give graciously of time, resources, and energy in order to show the incredible love of Christ to others. You minister in a place many would not enter. You seek to communicate the forgiveness that God offers to men and women who are sometimes treated as “less” than those on the outside of the walls. In short, You fulfill a wonderful “equation” outlined by Jesus himself in Matthew. One day, the King will look at how people have treated their brothers and sisters, and equate that with how they treated Him. Of course, we don’t treat others well in order to gain favor with God, we do it because we recognize that we are trying to treat others the way that God treated us. We were all in spiritual jail, and Jesus ministered to us. I was truly the “least of these,” but God viewed me as important enough to die for. All of you exhibit this great truth and are shining the light of Christ in a sometimes darkened place. We thank you from the depths of our hearts that you are using your gifts to glorify God in Prince William County.
Whenever we turn the calendar over to a new page, we have an opportunity to reflect on what has passed and what is likely to come next. God often would instruct Israel to make a monument of standing stones to commemorate historic occasions in their relationship with Him. He would instruct them to prepare these sites so that someday, someone would ask, “What happened here?” and they would be able to glorify God by answering about their special relationship with Him. Our lives are no different. I urge all of you reading this to look back at the previous year and consider all God has done. Yes, of course all the things you were praying for, but also the things God provided that you didn’t even know you needed. Think on those things and praise God for his provision.
In the end, it is good to take time to reflect on these monuments of the past year, but don’t forget to look forward with great joy that we serve a God who is alive and well, and has amazing plans for all of you. I look forward to continue to serve side-by-side with all of you.
You Can Make A Difference!
As we closed out 2009 we realized a record year of giving, however, we also had an increase in expenses. This was due to the increased need. With the opening of the new area of the Main Building, we have been given the opportunity to minister to more inmates and staff.
With the addition of another full-time Chaplain and the increased number of inmates and staff, our financial needs have also increased.
Thank you to all who have given faithfully to our ministry. We know that we are in hard economic times, but just as the old woman gave her last two cents, her contribution was even greater than that given by someone not experiencing financial hardships. Your financial contributions are making an impact.
If you are currently giving financially to your capacity, please consider helping us with the vending machines (See “Volunteers” article in this issue). This is a way to maximize your time and donations.
